A painted abstract self portrait of Clara Martin, credit Clara Martin & Amber Miller.

Clara Martin is a textile artist, designer and gallery professional whose work explores the nuances of violence, femininity and the domestic space. Her work takes many forms including weaving, embroidery and quilting – all in the aim to explore what can be said through the inherent nature that textiles possess.

The juxtaposition between the embodied nature of the material and the strong influence of violence, as a concept, is what Clara finds most interesting.

The Unconformity acknowledges the palawa people as the original and traditional custodians of lutruwita/Tasmania. We commit to working respectfully to honour their ongoing cultural and spiritual connections to this land.
